Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • call our dedicated repeat prescription line, 01224 849393, and leave your message on the answer machine
  • post or bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm
  • hand your request into the chemist

We do not take repeat prescription requests via email.

The repeat prescription phone line is for repeat prescriptions only. If you need another item that is not on your repeat list, please ring the normal surgery number. The GP will assess whether the 'non repeat' medication is still indicated for you.

NB: When using the Repeat Prescription line - please only leave prescription request information for one person per telephone call. Please make a separate call for requests for another person. (Requesting several items for a number of people in one call can lead to mistakes in transcription of the call).

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

Collection of your prescription can be arranged from the surgery or from either of the two Porters Pharmacies in Westhill, Blackburn Pharmacy or from Kingswells Pharmacy.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • at your GP practice

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:

  • phone on 01224 849400

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet. If you need to dispose of a sharps bin please take these to your local pharmacy. Inhalers can be disposed of by handing these into the practice reception.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. Contact the pharmacy directly to discuss whether an appointment is necessary.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
